CALL THE FBI

Yesterday, mom came home to a message on her answering machine saying that this girl had found a $10,000 check written out from dad to someone. Courtney and I were over when mom first listened to it and our fraud alerts were flashing! Mom wanted to call the police, but we didn't think that was the best avenue to go down. She did talk to dad and he didn't know what was going on. Alan's dad just retired from the financial department for the state of Utah and I've heard him talk about this kind of thing before. Mom was very adamant about doing something, so I called my father in law. He said that this sort of thing is happening a lot and suggested calling the Utah FBI fraud division, which we did. Mom got voicemail so she gave her name and # and a brief explanation of the situation.

After calling the FBI and getting all hyped up over the situation we found out the REAL story-
Dad DID write a check for $10,000 for an object lesson in one of his institute classes. He then put the $10,000 check into his scriptures, which fell out onto the floor in one of the halls at the Logan Institute of Religion. A totally innocent, and non-fraudulent, honest girl found the check for large sums of money and wanted to return it to it's owner.

Moral of the story#1: Don't call the FBI until the full story is disclosed.

Moral of the story #2: Don't write fake checks for large sums of money and then lose them and THEN forget about them.
